Enjoy Fresh Fruit And Vegetables Grown Locally By People Just Like You

It’s a sad fact that in 2022, the majority of Fruit and Vegetables sold in the UK are imported from other countries, with only 54% of the UK’s vegetables and 16% of our fruit grown here. Fresh Veggies wants to change that so that we become less dependent on suppliers in other countries, less affected by global shortages, and more supportive of the farmers and growers who are closer to home. In the UK, there is an increasing number of people who grow their own fruit and vegetables in their own homes and gardens. Some grow just to feed themselves and their families and others to sell and make a profit. You may very well have seen shelves with crates of food for sale at the end of driveways alongside an honesty box in some rural areas where they are already trying to do this. Fresh Veggies was created to help these growers to connect with customers where they live. We support a vast network of local home growers allowing them to sell their fresh fruit and vegetables directly to their local community through our online marketplace.

Why Buy Through Fresh Veggies?

When you buy through our marketplace, you’ll be shopping with a local grower so your food never has far to travel before landing on your plate. Conscious of the impact on the environment? Well as the food is not travelling far, it has a lower carbon footprint so you get to do your bit for the environment whilst supporting small business owners in your local community. Furthermore, the freshness of your produce also means you get the full benefits of the nutrients contained in the vegetables.

Our growers use a variety of methods including traditional vegetable patch growing in gardens and allotments, plus the use of hydroponic technology so you’ll have access to a good variety of fruit and vegetables including those considered non-seasonal and non-native – why not try something new?

Like shopping organically? Concerned about the potential chemicals used to grow your food? Your grower can tell you what, if anything they have used to grow your vegetables. Furthermore, if your fruit and vegetables are grown in a controlled hydroponics environment, there’ll be no dust, no bugs and no need for insecticides or pesticides.

You and your family will enjoy learning more about the fruit and vegetables you buy and eat and it may just help to encourage the kids to eat their greens (a win for any parent!). You’ll also benefit from high levels of customer service as our growers will want you to keep coming back for more.

Who Are Our Partners?

You can learn more about the stories of our growers on their independent shopfronts, but we attract partners from all different walks of life - parents, grandparents, students, hobbyists, growers for whom this is the main income, growers for whom this is a side hustle… anyone can be a grower. They grow their produce in gardens, orchards, allotments, farms, balconies, garages, spare bedrooms, conservatories, and greenhouses - wherever they have room.

Our aim is to empower these local growers to make their own decisions about what they grow, whilst offering them advice to get

the most out of their fruit and vegetable planting. To this end, we offer tips and advice on the different growing methods, types of soil available, seed options (with reviews) and any other recommendations which we also think will help. They’ll also be part of a community of growers so they can share their knowledge or collaborate with other growers near them.

As a marketplace, clearly one of the main reasons our partners join us is to make money. Fresh Veggies help our growers to reach more customers by allowing them to become discovered by their local community, so they can find new regular customers and increase their income. The system is easy to use, the fees are clear and transparent and for many growers, it’s cheaper than setting up a fruit and veg stall in their local market.
